![]() I'm sure there are other examples but it's a safe assumption that a runway's magnetic heading will be directly related to it's number but not always. In other cases a runway will have been numbered decades ago but due to the shift in the magnetic poles the runway's magnetic heading will no longer corrispond to the runway number. In some cases with 4 parallel runways they'll name 1 pair 27 L/R and the other pair 26 L/R even though all 4 runways have the same magnetic heading. Sometimes runways numbers don't match up with their magnetic heading but that is usually only found at airports with numerous runways. This runway will have 06 painted on the approach end of it. Runways are numbers to the nearest 10 degrees and will miss off the last zero. 79 ft Tree, 2253 ft from runway392 ft left of center line, 26:1 slope to clear. These numbers represent the magnetic direction the rest of the runway faces, so for instance this runway the faces easterly and will have a magnetic heading of 060. That means that even though a runway might be facing West to East the number might be 25 (250 degrees) not 27 (270 degrees) due to the variation to the magnetic poles. 52 ft Pole, 1647 ft from runway 327 ft right of center line, 28:1 slope to clear. Now that you have some tools to choose the correct runway to land on, be sure to visit the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 tag on Shacknews for more help.- 19th February 2004 at 17:13 - Edited 1st January 1970 at 01:00Īs Bhoy stated it's based on compass or magnetic heading. The letter will only be in the runway number if there is more than one option to land on for that heading. ![]() If you’re supposed to land on runway 07R, you’ll approach the runway following a 70-degree heading, and you will land on the right-most runway in relation to that heading. The letters in the runway can be L, C, R, or nothing at all. ![]() If you’re supposed to land on runway 07, the compass heading would be 70, which you can easily check as you’re flying the plane. The number of the runway will always be the compass heading if you add a zero to the end. For instance, Runway Two Eight (28) is located at an angle of 280 degrees magnetic. These numbers represent the first two digits of the runway’s actual three digit magnetic direction. This number is rounded off to the nearest 10 degrees. ![]() If you know you’re supposed to land on runway 23, you only need to add a 0 to the number and you have the compass heading for the runway. Runway numbers are essentially the runway’s heading or direction. The far cooler solution is to understand runway numbers. It does require you to tab out of the game (unless you use a tablet, phone, or second PC), so it’s not my first choice in how to approach this problem. This will allow you to plan out your approach long before you get near your destination. The first trick is to use a website called SkyVector to find the airport you’re landing at and view the diagram of that airport. Thanks to the fine people at GameRevolution, we’ve learned of a cool trick to finding the correct runway in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Find the correct runway - Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Thankfully, there’s a much better way to find the correct runway to land on, and it’ll make you feel accomplished to pull it off. All too often I see the airport in the distance and wait to hear the air traffic controller call out the correct runway, but then I must spot it from the air and circle into position. If you’re like me you’ve been struggling to find the correct runway to land on in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
